Making connections and reconnecting

It’s the third week of English class and we still have people wanting to register, even from other villages. For now, 50 students seems manageable. We’re teaching more than just English, though. We open and close with prayer, and the youngest age group is learning “God is so Good” (in English) which they will be able to sing in an upcoming church service.

A cute little face recently appeared at our friend Patti’s house. His name is Alonso, and he is 7 years old. Abandoned by his father and mother, he is taken care of by his grandmother. But when grandma leaves town to go to work to support him, Patti becomes the caretaker. He always has a smile on his face and you would never know what trials he has gone through. But Alonso is not alone, there are many other children in similar situations, without a mother or father, but the Bible says that the Lord is a father to the fatherless.

Our weeks seem to get fuller and fuller with Bible studies, English classes, visitations, meetings, etc. We praise the Lord for these opportunities, but by the end of this last week we were in need of a rest. We frantically cleaned house and prepared for the Sabbath on Thursday so that we could take pictures and explore some falls we have only been able to see from a distance. It was just as peaceful and tranquil as we hoped.

This last Sabbath we traveled to three different places. We started out at the Mazumiapan II church and then we went from BG to GB. In other words, the church in Bowling Green, Ohio to the Granite Bay church in California. Thanks to God for SKYPE and free wi-fi in Santiago because we were able to communicate a mission field update with friends and family.

Last night we had an unexpected visitor that turned out to be an “angel from God.”  Mirna, the woman we helped overcome stomach problems with water, called to us from the bottom of our steps outside our home.  After welcoming her into our home she began to excitedly explain to us that an Adventist doctor urgently wants to get in touch with us. This is exciting to us for several reasons. First, we have great need for a doctor to assist us in the ministry. Second, it was a direct answer to a prayer two nights ago. Third, Mirna is sharing how our presence has impacted her life to others. Praise the Lord that Jesus has the opportunity to shine through each and every one of us.

We have one last picture for you of a family who asked us to study the Bible with them in Laurel.
